People Helping People. That’s Who We Are!

Robertson Resource Center, Inc. (RRC) is a not-for-profit, 501( c )3 faith-based organization founded in 2001 by Troy and Clara Robertson. Robertson Resource Center’s mission is to strengthen the community and achieve social and economic equity for children and families by providing educational and support services. RRC has accomplished this through our involvement in various community-based endeavors such as community health fairs, church events, and in-house training programs for foster parenting.

Many lives have been dramatically changed as a result of the caring efforts of RRC. The Robertsons, themselves foster parents who have fostered over twenty children, have recruited, trained, and mentored numerous people to become foster parents to hundreds of children in need of good, stable homes. Their efforts have been recognized by the Child Welfare League of America, the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, and Housing and Neighborhood Development Services, Inc. (HANDS).

As Troy and Clara Robertson continue to lead RRC in the mission of helping people, they were blessed with the vision to serve a unique population of young mothers undergoing in-patient rehabilitation from substance abuse, and under their direction, Agape Family Services (AFS) was formed in 2005. Agape Family Services is a premiere model that provides a variety of services in the following areas:

-Reunification of mother and children who have been placed in foster care;
-Provision of transitional housing (Agape House) for a period of 18 months;
-Training in life skills, parenting, job readiness, computer skills, budgeting, and ethics;
-One-on-one mentoring and support.

“Michele”, a recent graduate of the Agape Family Services program, had this to say regarding her experience in the program:

“This wonderful network of God’s people set their standards high for you, only because they want the best for you even when you’re not sure what you want for yourself. I found that they offered the most important tools…People Helping People has helped me more than they can even imagine.”

Shepard’s Helper Real Estate Investing Program

The purpose of this program is to assist with providing homes to relative care parents, foster parents, birth parents, aged out foster children and parents in the Robertson Resource Center (RRC) Program.

The problem is that there are foster parents who are willing to care for more than one child but do not have adequate space. In New Jersey grandparents caring for their grandchildren have to move out of their senior citizens home into a home that is more suitable for the children.

There are birth and RRC parents in need of a home after being reunited with their children, with a backyard, swings, and everything that goes with it.

There are children who have aged out of the foster care system that are looking to become first time home buyers.

With your support we can solve these problems. Your workshop will greatly aid us in providing much-needed resources. We will provide housing solutions for foster parents and grandparents in need of more space in the home.

We will assist birth parents and RRC graduates being reunited with their children in obtaining suitable homes with backyards, swings and sandboxes for their children.

We will help former children in the foster care system purchase their first home and assist families who are interested in a new career field through real estate investing.

Hi Jon,

First I wanted to say I love your enthusiasm when it comes to real estate, I pray I am successful one day! I have been studying real estate for two years, I feel like I am stuck in park. I would love to win two tickets, or to just have you coach me. I believe if I had someone that would hold me accountable and give me a little direction, I could be successful!

I am an aunt, I have been raising my brothers four kids for the past several years. Ten years ago I developed carpal tunnel and had surgery on both hands and I now have rsd.
I need this opportunity because I am struggling to raise my two youngest nephews that are still with me, I am on welfare and food stamps. Several months ago I had to sell the house that they grew up in, to an investor to avoid foreclosure. The oldest had holes in his shoes and didn't tell me, his comment was "they are fine as long as it is not raining", that broke my heart. He said he wanted me to spend the money on real estate, to get my business going, he got new shoes!
Cody and Joey know with the disease I have the more stressed I am the more pain I am in. I want all of them to have a better life, I love all four like they were my own, they are awesome kids! They never complain because they barely have what they need and never get what they want, and always tell me it's okay because were all together and that's enough, for me it's not!

Thanks for the shout out Jon. I needed the encouragement to write this. The second I saw your contest I had started writing, page after page in a spiral notebook about my troubles. It was good therapy, some tears were shed for the departed (both my parents died around this time of year so I'm a little melancholy anyway). But I was rambling & not really saying anything of substance. A day or so passed & I started reading other contest entries. The stories were so much like my own, filled with loss, fear, panic, anger, desire- and ultimately hope for a better future. I was so touched by what we have in common that it gave me pause. Why should I be the one to win? Would I be taking away someone else's chance to change their lives? Even if I do win, can I afford transportation and lodging? We've been living off $512/mo unemployment & food stamps for the last 6 months. My brother, Joseph literally started a job yesterday. Can he get time off? My brother said, "We can make it somehow, you just have to try. You've been praying for help, maybe this is it. You deserve something good to happen just as much as anybody else." OK. So here goes...I want revenge. I know what it feels like to be screwed by soul-less corporations, circumstance, the economic downturn & life in general. I've thrown the pity party, now it's time to clean up. If living well is the best revenge, then let's start living well. While we're at it, let's see if we can help others out there who are drowning in housing debt who just want a fresh start. If I spend half as much energy on learning how to do short sales as I have on job applications in the last year, I should be able to get back on my feet in no time. Jon, finding you gave me more courage that you realize. Watching were you came from gave me the courage to sign up for Vena's wholesaling class. It took my last dimes on earth but now I have the knowledge I need to stop wishing and start doing. Don't ever think REITVshow doesn't matter, it does. Keep up the great work!

This opportunity represents a new life for me in a way that's difficult to express. I am divorced and I live with my parents. I have what is typically called a "good job" with a "good company" -- meaning security according to the Poor Dad philosophy. I work way too many hours and miss way too much with my kids, and I know that the company will fire me in a heartbeat if it thinks it needs to. I've spent a lot of money on my real estate education and the mistakes I've made so far, and I'm having trouble sleeping at night because I don't know how I will get out of the debt if I can't make this real estate business work. The bills are coming due and I don't know how to pay them. I was supposed to buy my parents' house so they could retire, but now they have to keep working for a while. Feels like the walls are closing in sometimes. So I need to break free from this cycle and start making moving forward. I want more for my life and for my kids than working 60+ hours a week making money for someone else. I want control and direction and autonomy and I think this is my shot.

Hi Jon
Well it started like this, On July 25, 2006 my life changed forever. I came home from driving cross country on the 24 and on the 25 I walked into a hospital to see my mother lifeless on a bed. I remember thinking to myself what the hell I am going to do know. And it wasnt so much about me it was about three kids my mother was raising my two nieces and newphew. She also was taken care of my grandmother who was 93 yrs old at the time. I knew I wasnt ready but I had to be because people needed me. Long story short, my mother was dealing with cancer that was traveling through her body, forced retirement, working another job, dealing with a mortgages, taken care of kids and her mother. I thought I could solve the problem by going over the road truck driver to make more money (wrong). Thats not the life I want to have, sick and taken care of every body but myself and working myself to death. I'm headed that way know but I'm fight and pulling they other way, just need help and the right tools. Look for me at the top cause I going to get there one way or the another(there is more to life then working 10 to 15 hours a day). I cant wait to see the other side!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the past several months, two educational tracks converged and convinced me to pursue short sales as the primary focus of my business. The first track has been learning my market by getting out in it, seeing and offering on lots of properties. The second has been the demystification of the short sale process.
House prices ascended in my market over the past decade as the population grew and the area boomed. The recession brought a significant drop in prices and unemployment. So the MLS is full of possible short sale properties, since market price will not cover loans.
As colleagues in other areas have been getting great bargains buying REOs, that has not been the case here. Bargain hunting retail buyers, armed with the First Time Home Buyer’s Tax Credit, have been buying the REOs. It has been easier for them to buy an REO than to offer on a short sale and wait for a successful negotiation. I have watched many agent short sales linger for months, then go to auction. An agent friend of mine took on his first short sale listing a few months ago. It was a family acquaintance who had divorced, could not make payments alone, and wanted to be rid of the house. They did not get a serious buyer until very late, then found that the former husband was still on the mortgage. Getting him to participate was no longer an option. The seller just gave up and let the house go. If I had had the education and a team and systems in place, I might have brought a better ending to this by preventing a foreclosure and quickly getting a new family into this house.
I heard an educator say that he prefers buying REOs because there are no emotions involved. He was uncomfortable with the heart break of dealing with families approaching foreclosure. I can understand that, but the heart break still occurred and the former home owner has that foreclosure on their record. Also, the downward spiral of foreclosure, followed by months of vacancy, deteriorates houses. That is a loss of value and wealth that I want to “mitigate”.
I see this economic time as my opportunity to do good in my community, while firmly establishing my real estate investing career. Jon and Kasey have been the leaders in my short sale education to date, so I see the “Short Sales Unleashed” event as an indispensible opportunity to flesh out my knowledge, action plan and confidence.
I will invite my 24 year old nephew to join me, if he can spend a long weekend away from his 4 year old daughter. He is looking for the next step beyond his current laborer’s job, and has been curious about what I have been doing. I would like him to experience the enthusiasm Jon and Kasey have for what they do.
Sincerely,
Tom Eline

This event will end my struggle with my out-of-place feelings I am overwhelmed with every morning as I commute to the slave house. I am over $60k in debt with student loans, five years into my career and feel as if I made a grave mistake in choosing this field instead of pursuing a real estate mentor over 10 years ago. I returned to school @ 26 after the sudden death of my best friend/partner (he was in Medical school when he had a heart attack while playing indoor soccer with fellow students). We dreamed of real estate ventures with him as the chief financier and myself running the rental business. His sudden death was also death of a part of me. I returned to school thinking Construction Management would be great for my business, which it has helped in the rehab business but I now loath contractors! I have sacrificed greatly (ask me about my project on 32nd ave!)for many years to pursue my dream only to feel dumbfounded now by the long and laborious path I traveled. This seminar is going to launch me into 2010...the year I truly gain the freedom (saying goodbye to employment) I long for and the opportunity to live again (have time outside of the 9-5 slave life). I can relate to your start and I should have taken the risk you did instead of the conventional path I choose. I guarantee you your gift will be returned in many forms if you choose me.
